Update regarding the potential transfer of Ste. Anne’s Hospital to the government of Quebec

An agreement in principle as part of the negotiations regarding the potential transfer of Ste. Anne’s Hospital was signed April 27^th, 2012 by the Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Veterans Affairs, and Quebec’s Minister of Health and Social Services, the Honourable Yves Bolduc.

This agreement in principle is a first step that will establish the major items of principle on which the parties must agree before moving ahead with further negotiations.

THIS DOES NOT SIGNIFY THE CONCLUSION OF NEGOTIATIONS, AND DOES NOT IMPLY THAT A TRANSFER IS IN EFFECT.

STE. ANNE’S HOSPITAL FOUNDATION is in contact with representatives of both governments regarding the transfer issue.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT, REGARDLESS OF AN EVENTUAL TRANSFER, OUR FOUNDATION WILL CONTINUE SERVING OUR CANADIAN VETERANS AT STE. ANNE’S HOSPITAL FOR YEARS TO COME, OFFERING THEM THE QUALITY OF CARE AND SERVICES THEY DESERVE.

L’accord de principe qui cèdera la place aux négociations pour le transfert éventuel de l’Hôpital Sainte-Anne au gouvernement du Québec, a été signé le 27 avril 2012 par le ministre des Anciens Combattants, l’honorable Steven Blaney, ainsi que le ministre de la Santé et des Services sociaux du Québec, l’honorable Yves Bolduc.

Cet accord de principe est une première étape qui établira les principaux éléments de principe sur lesquels les parties doivent s’entendre avant de pouvoir poursuivre les négociations.

IL NE S’AGIT AUCUNEMENT DE LA CONCLUSION DES NÉGOCIATIONS, NI DE LA PRISE D’EFFET D’UN TRANSFERT.

LA FONDATION DE L’HÔPITAL SAINTE-ANNE demeure en communication avec les représentants des deux gouvernements concernant ce dossier.

IL EST IMPORTANT DE MENTIONNER QUE, MALGRÉ UN TRANFERT ÉVENTUEL, NOTRE FONDATION CONTUNUERA DE SERVIR NOS VÉTÉRANS CANADIENS DE L’HÔPITAL SAINTE-ANNE POUR DES ANNÉES À VENIR, LEUR OFFRANT AINSI LA QUALITÉ DES SOINS ET SERVICES QU’ILS MÉRITENT.

Hospitalized Veterans at Ste. Anne’s Hospital can now communicate “face-to-face” with their relatives anywhere in the world thanks to the technology of the Internet

In today’ society, loneliness through isolation is a frequent phenomenon. This reality is no exception for our Veterans of the Second World War and of the Korean War at Ste. Anne’s Hospital, of an average age of 89 years old, who receive long-term, end-of-life and palliative care.

These men and women suffer from loneliness and isolation from the community and from their loved ones because of their hospitalization and also due to the fading condition of their physical and mental health. Due to their loss of autonomy and medical condition, the potential for desired social interactions are infrequent and contained within the walls of a hospital.

For all of these reasons, the Foundation at Ste. Anne’s Hospital offered its financial support for the development of a pilot project aimed at promoting more frequent interactions between our Veterans and one or several persons of great significance in their lives. This is done through the technology of SKYPE.

This software allows video communication from one computer to another, no matter where Internet users are located across the province, the country and even the world. With the collaboration of the family, of employees and volunteers, hospitalized Veterans can now communicate with their family from their hospital room through the technology of a portable computer… and even see and talk to their grandchildren or even their great-grandchildren, some of them, for the very first time!

Les vétérans hospitalisés à l’Hôpital Sainte-Anne peuvent maintenant communiquer« face-à-face » avec leurs proches n’importe où dans le monde grâce à la technologie de l’Internet

La solitude est l’un des phénomènes marquants de notre société. Cette réalité ne fait pas exception pour nos vétérans de la Seconde Guerre mondiale et de la Guerre de Corée à l’Hôpital Sainte-Anne, d’un âge moyen de 89 ans, qui y reçoivent des soins de longue durée, des soins de fin de vie et des soins palliatifs.

Ces hommes et ces femmes qui avancent en âge sont victimes d’isolement social en raison de leur hospitalisation et de leur état affaiblit de santé physique et mental. Leur perte d’autonomie rend les échanges sociaux désirés et potentiels peu fréquents et contenus à l’intérieur des murs d’un hôpital.

Pour toutes ces raisons, la Fondation de l’Hôpital Sainte-Anne a offert son soutien pour financer la réalisation d’un projet pilote ayant pour objectif de favoriser les interrelations entre nos vétérans et une ou plusieurs personnes significatives dans leur vie par l’entremise de la technologie SKYPE.

Ce logiciel de téléphonie permet des échanges vidéo d’un ordinateur à un autre, sans égard à l’endroit où se trouvent les internautes à travers la province, le pays et même le monde. Avec la collaboration de la famille et l’encadrement offert par des employés et des bénévoles, un vétéran hospitalisé peut maintenant communiquer avec ses proches à partir de sa chambre, par l’entremise d’un ordinateur portable… et même voir et parler à ses petits-enfants ou même ses arrière-petits-enfants, certains, pour la première fois!

The Foundation inaugurates its new Donor Recognition Board

On January 9th, the Foundation inaugurated its brand new Recognition Board installed on the second floor of Ste. Anne’s Hospital. This board is a tribute to all our generous donors who have opened their hearts to our Canadian Veterans at Ste. Anne’s Hospital. It lists the names of the donors who have made a contribution to our 2010 – 2011 Annual Campaign, from November 1^st 2010 to October 31^st 2011, taking into account the desire of some to remain anonymous.

This board also includes a section for the “Be the ONE” Partnership Program. We are proud to welcome many new Partners who have decided to join us by supporting our Veterans this year. For more information on our “Be the ONE” Partnership Program, click here.

La Fondation inaugure son nouveau tableau en l’honneur de ses généreux donateurs

Le 9 janvier dernier, la Fondation a procédé à l’installation d’un tout nouveau tableau au 2^e étage de l’Hôpital Sainte-Anne. Ce dernier rend hommage à ses généreux donateurs qui ont à cœur le bien-être de nos vétérans de l’Hôpital Sainte-Anne. Sur ce tableau, nous y retrouvons le nom de tous les donateurs ayant contribué à la campagne annuelle 2010 – 2011 par leur don fait entre le 1^er novembre 2010 et le 31 octobre 2011, tout en respectant le désir de certains de conserver l’anonymat.

Ce tableau comprend également une section dédiée au Programme de partenariat « Vous avez le POUVOIR ». Nous sommes heureux de constater que de nombreux nouveaux partenaires se sont joints à nous en soutenant nos vétérans cette année.
