Lieutenant-General the Honourable Roméo A. Dallaire, OC, CMM, MSC, CD, LLD (Ret), Senator
It is with great pride that I have accepted the nomination of Honourary Chairman of Ste. Anne’s Hospital Foundation, a charitable organization that is close to my heart and has a mission of supporting the well-being of Veterans of all generations who receive health care services from Ste. Anne’s Hospital.
This noble cause deserves the support of Canadians, who enjoy freedom and security thanks, in large part, to the devotion and sacrifices of our Veterans in time of War, and to our young Canadian military personnel on peacekeeping missions who are faced with the new reality of military conflicts around the world.
Lieutenant-General Roméo Dallaire devoted 36 years of his life to the Canadian Forces, and was Commander of the United Nations Observer Mission Uganda-Rwanda, and the United Nations Assistance Mission for Rwanda where he witnessed the genocide of the Rwandan people. Author of the book Shake Hands with the Devil: The Failure of Humanity in Rwanda, Roméo Dallaire is one of Canada’s most decorated soldiers. Considered by many as a true Canadian hero, Roméo Dallaire was appointed Senator in March 2005.
